I love this "Hi Tek" track. I recently heard it in a Dara mix CD but I remember everyone playing this in 1997. Hearing it again really takes me back to that time when I used to travel far and wide to hear drum and bass. This isn't even my style of drum and bass but this track really nails that time period and what it felt like to hear it then. Dark, cold, dirty, full of cigarette smoke (I can't believe I put up with that stench at the parties!!!), snow outside on the ground... the sound of this record is what it was to go out back then. I was wondering what this track was called and just before I was going through my old neurofunk records from 2000 and I came across two Mampi double packs. One of the tracks on there sounded like this and I thought... it must be Mampi Swift, that sick track on that Dara mix.... sure enough it is!!! I will have to add this to my 12" collection at some point.
lets go baby
I can't believe we're banging on about catalogue numbers regarding this release! Back to the music... Put simply Swift was on fire at this point, this is the original incarnation of modern day jump up. I'm pretty sure if you asked many of the new wave of jump up producers who their influences were there would be some mention of early Mampi bangers. Yes, it's simplistic, but at the same time it isn't - that is the essence of real d'n'b. It's a vibe and if you don't understand the vibe you can't make tracks like this. Every sound is tweaked to bring maximum punch, bass and weight, and most important of all that intense energy that no other music can produce.
I agree Sloofman, I don't understand why people post reviews that are bickerings about catalog numbers. There's more of those "reviews" with the heavy metal community on here it seems. Its less common to see them with DnB and rave records.
There is a miss labelled version of this around, the one I owned and recently sold had the label from CHARGE003 on it, I sold it as this ("The 1" b/w "The Journey") as I wasn't aware that it was wrongly labelled, but was informed after the sale that it was in fact not "The 1" b/w "The Journey" but these two tracks "Hi Tek b/w Mission. Just a heads up, as I mentioned I sold the record without this knowledge so couldn't add it to the database.
Hi,i think you're right.i also have the mispress,today i've added it to discogs:http://www.discogs.com/Mampi-Swift-Hi-Tek-Mission/release/3341382cheers
Catalogue number on label reads CHARGE004 Etching in run-out groove reads CHRG004
