is the second album by American rock band The Beach Boys. It reached number two in the US, lasting 78 weeks on the albums chart, eventually being certified gold by the RIAA, and brought the group newfound national success. It was led by one single, its title track with the B-side "Shut Down". In the United Kingdom, the album was belatedly released in late 1965, reaching number 17. It was recognized as one of the greatest songs ever released by the The Beach Boys.

The album peaked at No. 32 in its 37-week run on the US charts.

Surfin' Safari, originally released in 1962, was the second song ever released by The Beach Boys. Released as a single and backed by the song 409, the song peaked at number 14 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart, and would remain on the chart for 17 weeks. The song later featured prominently on The Beach Boys debut album of the same name. In 2014, Billboard ranked the song in its list of Top 30 Summer Songs. In classic Beach Boys style, the song focuses on three subjects: surfing, women, and cars. In Surfin' Safari, the former takes precedence.

The Beach Boys' debut album, recorded in an era in which little was expected of rock groups in the way of strong LP-length statements, is mostly thin and awkward in both the songwriting and production departments. The title track, their first true smash, is great, as is its flip side ("409"), which was not only a hit in its own right, but was the first vocal hot rod classic. Surfin'," their debut single (and small national hit), is also good, and one of the few Beach Boys tracks that could be said to have a garage-like quality. Two of the better cuts, "The Shift" and the instrumental "Moon Dawg," have a grittier-than-usual surf rock base that would flower on 1963 hits like "Surfin' . Surfin' Safari/Surfin' . onto one disc, with the addition of three rare bonus cuts from the same.

Notes

24-bit digital re-release of the albums Surfin' Safari' originally released 01.Oct.1962, and Surfin' U.S.A.' originally released 27.Mar.1963. This release also includes 3 bonus tracks not appearing on the original releases.

In the preparation of this compact disc, every effort has been made to make these historic recordings sound as they did when Brian, Carl, Mike, Dennis, Al and David first made them. Numerous tapes were auditioned in order to find the best sounding master. No remixing was attempted, as this would not be faithful to the original productions. The original mono and stereo tapes were transferred using a specially modified modified ampex tape machine and custom-made analog-to-digital converters.
The disc has been mastered using the Pacific Microsonics HDCD system which encodes 24 bits onto a conventional 16 bit CD. The bonus tracks have been selected from a variety of sources and were mixed directly from the original three and four track masters.

Digitally remastered at Oceanview Digital Mastering, Los Angeles, Ca, 2000.
Track 25 and 26 mixed at Your Place Or Mine Studios, Los Angeles, Ca.
