Y Kant Tori Read is an album by the 1980s synthpop band of the same name, fronted by then-unknown singer and songwriter Tori Amos. The band consisted of Amos, singer-pianist Kim Bullard, and future Guns N' Roses drummer Matt Sorum, as well as long-time Amos collaborator guitarist Steve Caton and various studio musicians. Due to the title, some critics believed the album was a solo project by a woman named "Tori Read". This was compounded by the fact that Amos is billed simply as "Tori" in the liner notes.

Y Kant Tori Read is the 1988 album by the band of the same name. Stone claimed that Y Kant Tori Read is "not that bad, but hardly an indicator of the lyrical bite in her future solo work.

Although the album sold poorly and Atlantic Records quickly ceased promotion efforts, Y Kant Tori Read found new life with intrepid fans as Amos' solo career blossomed, becoming a highly sought after collectible, even though Amos distanced herself from the work for decades. In 2017, nearly 30 years after original release, she finally embraced this part of her legacy, issuing a remastered version. Without the failure of Y Kant Tori Read and her direct reaction to its forced aesthetic, Amos' true vision might never have emerged four years later on Little Earthquakes

To date, the cassette and vinyl have not been bootlegged, with the exception of a picture disc vinyl released around 2000, which is very much a bootleg. There are two promotional versions of the album; one one cassette, and one on 12" vinyl.

After holding it awhile, I remembered coming across a copy at a used record store (also in San Francisco I think but before I moved there).
