This Way ‎(CDr, Album, Promo). Do You Me? I Did (2)<" eventually usurps it, replacing it with something typical of GILBERT & LEWIS, which hangs in the air like a delicate but strange artifact, transforming through a breathing-like connection into something similar yet different enough to hold the attention. It sustains, metallic yet dull, creating an atmosphere of mild but obvious threat, a machine dog bark echoing across an empty, abandoned, decadent plaza, insatiable and lonely in the heat of an eternal afternoon.

This Way is Wire guitarist Bruce Gilbert's first solo album, and it took a few by surprise. This is not a rock guitar player's album - although the guitar is in there providing raw materials - but an avant rocker's take on abstract music

First released in 1984 on Mute, This Way was the debut solo LP from Bruce Gilbert, Wire’s guitarist and a former studio technician with a taste for outer-limits synthesiser sounds. Finally, the album concludes with two short compositions, the mechanical Here Visit and U, Mu, U, a music concrete-like piece apparently simulating a steam train at full tilt. For anyone with a fascination for synth noise, or even the less-trod areas of the British experimental underground, This Way is history worth revisiting. Bruce Clifford Gilbert (born on 18 May 1946 in Watford, Hertfordshire) is an English musician, one of the founding members of the influential and experimental art-punk band Wire and a pioneer in the experimental noise scene. He studied art in a British art school and found a niche in the budding avant-garde music scene in late-1960's England. Gilbert's experimental inclinations in his musical tastes later influenced his guitar playing in the art-punk band Wire.
