Volume Two is the second LP album by The Soft Machine, released in 1969. A jazz influence is added to the humour, dada, and psychedelia of their first LP The Soft Machine (1968). The album was inspired by The Mothers Of Invention's Absolutely Free and consists of two suites – "Rivmic Melodies " and "Esther's Nose Job" – with "As Long as He Lies Perfectly Still" and "Dedicated to You" serving as interludes

The second album from The Soft Machine just called Volume Two continues the intellectual psychadelic late sixties prog rock style from their debut. Kevin Ayers has left the band to be replaced by former roadie for the band Hugh Hopper. The change is instantly heard as the distorted bass from Hugh Hopper is heard for the first time. It must have been quite a revolution to hear a bass so heavily distorted as this one in 1969. Hugh Hopperīs dominant distorted bass is one of the great things about this album  . Even though there are similarities between volume one and two I still think Volume two is a bit better than the debut. This is highly recommendable music. Conclusion: Everyone should have this CD in their home.

Ground breaking first two albums from one of the most unusual outfits of the 60s featuring Mike Ratledge's crashing organ sound and topped with Robert Wyatt's unique near-falsetto vocals. 75 minutes of Art Rock from British band, 30 tracks from 1968-69. download 320 ISRACLOUD. download flac ISRACLOUD. tommy554 14 April 2018 23:14. many thanks for lossless.

The first Soft Machine LP usually got the attention, with its movable parts sleeve, as well as the presence of ultra-talented songwriter Kevin Ayers. But musically, Volume Two better conveys the Dada-ist whimsy and powerful avant rock leanings of the band. Hugh Hopper took over for Ayers on bass, and his fuzz tones and experimental leanings supplanted Ayers' pop emphasis. The creative nucleus behind this most progressive of progressive rock albums, however, is Robert Wyatt.
