The 21st Century Guide to King Crimson – Volume One – 1969–1974 is the first of two 4-CD sets of compilation albums, showcasing the entire production of the British progressive rock band King Crimson. This set of discs contains both studio and live performances ranging from the beginnings of the band in 1969 to their first dissolution in 1974. 21st Century Schizoid Man" (Including "Mirrors") (Robert Fripp, Ian McDonald, Greg Lake, Michael Giles, Peter Sinfield) – 7:24.
The definitive box set for any Krimsonites collection is undoubtedly "The 21 Century Guide to King Crimson: Volumes One and Two"; 8 CDs of solid classic King Crimson including rarities and a ton of live material. This alternative compilation "The Condensed 21st Century Guide 1969 - 2003" is way cheaper and has no live material but most of the treasures that are terrific for any newcomers to the band wanting to taste and see why the Krims are such an incredible force in the Prog universe
The Condensed 21st Century Guide to King Crimson. The Condensed 21st Century Guide to King Crimson is a compilation by progressive rock band King Crimson, released in 2006. Since 2004 there have been two Discipline Global Mobile box sets documenting Crimson in great detail: The 21st Century Guide to King Crimson: Volume One 1969-1974 and Volume Two 1981-2003. The Condensed 21st Century Guide pares down these eight CDs of studio and live material to just two discs, making a terrific (and more affordable) introduction to this ionary group. It's also a solid "best of" collection, focusing exclusively on Crimson's studio albums. The first disc covers 1969-74, from the group's overnight emergence with the symphonic power of In the Court of the Crimson King, through to the more guitar and improvisation-heavy band that finished its three-album run with Red.
King Crimson is a decidedly unwieldy band. Spanning more than 35 years (as of this writing) and at least seven distinct lineups, and complicated by the studio vs. live dichotomy (not to mention no hits to speak of), this is a band that almost refuses to be anthologized. Anything less than a box set doesn't really do the band justice, but anything more than two discs may seem like a grand investment to someone who just wants to get acquainted with them
