12 USD. Stateless is the second full-length album of genre-hopping post-everything experimentalists Tangents
Tangents artfully mix acoustic instruments and electronics in pieces that combine improvisation with careful processing. At their best, they bring to mind Can, Tortoise, Four Tet, and the Necks. Judging from Stateless, their ears are as finely tuned as their chops. It’s a lovely album-porous, dynamic, lively, shot through with silence and bathed in warm light. It’s sometimes cluttered, but never distractingly so; like a cozy apartment strewn with curious objects, it’s just busy enough to keep you stimulated, your attention thrown pleasantly off balance.
Stateless is the self-titled and debut studio album released July 16, 2007 by Stateless on German electronica label !K7. The album includes besides newly written and recorded songs, all tracks previously released on The Bloodstream EP (2005) and debut-single "Down Here" (2004). The tracks "Exit", "Prism and "Bloodstream" were released as singles promoting the album. The artwork for the album and singles was created by Non-Format.
Stateless, their second album, is far more engaging. These pieces are very creative, as well as easy to listen to; some of them are lengthy, but they're not as demanding of the listener as much improvised music.
Tangents are a collective of musicians affectionately referred to as post-everything and when listening to ‘Jindabyne’, the first song off their upcoming album Stateless, it’s not hard to understand why. The quintet are so comfortable working with jazz, folk music, post-rock and electronic music that the track comfortably hangs in a space between them all. It’s abstract enough that it should be challenging to take in, but the group always glide with an inviting smoothness
