David Bowie is the second studio album by the English musician David Bowie, released under that title by Philips in the UK, and as Man of Words/Man of Music by Mercury in the US, on 14 November 1969. It was reissued in 1972 by RCA Records as Space Oddity (the title of the opening track, which had reached No. 5 in the UK Singles Chart). Space Oddity was the name used for CD releases of the album in 1984, 1990 and 1999, but it reverted to the original, eponymous title for 2009 and 2015 reissues.

Lyrics - 10 Nothing compares to the voice of David Bowie. Space Oddity' has nice lyrics and a good one to play on guitar or keyboard. He has a unique voice and look. Throughout the album is nice warming storys. There's just something about that voice of his that goes perfectly with the music he creates. He produces excellent meaningful lyrics in every track you ever hear of his. He has peaceful lyrics that could put you to sleep! Bowie really knows wht he's talking about in his songs

The earliest album in the box, 1969's David Bowie- a. Man of Words/Man of Music- wasn't Bowie's recorded debut, or even his first self-titled album. In fact, there could theoretically be a Five Years 1964-1968, tracing his evolution from rock 'n' roll wannabe to fussy vaudevillean, although it would mostly be kind of awful. It was, however, a follow-up to his first successful single, a haunting novelty record about a lost astronaut that had been released a week and a half before the moon landing.
