The Great Crusades’ ninth studio album, Until the Night Turned to Day, saw its first daylight in a beer-soaked rehearsal room at Chicago’s Superior Street center. The four longtime band members, Brian Hunt (bass, vocals), Brian Krumm (vocals, guitar), Brian Leach (guitar, keyboards, vocals) and Christian Moder (drums, keyboards, vocals) booked two days at the space and proceeded to simply play as they do best-in live rock band mode. Brian Krumm has played every show as a member of The Great Crusades, back in their starting days in Champaign, Illinois, and in the adopted hometown of Chicago since 1998. Brian Hunt has been involved a good long while, too. The two have a bond, dating back to their days in The Suede Chain, a Midwestern act that would hint at great things before their dissolution in 1995.
On Saturday, November 8, The Great Crusades visit St. Louis, with a new album in tow. Well, it’s relatively new, as the disc has already been released to a bit of acclaim in Europe. Stateside, the band is working with its original label and distributor, some 17 years after debuting with them. Brian Krumm, like several of his bandmates, is a native of Collinsville; his group has long maintained a presence here, despite their base in the Windy City. In fact, they recently released a single as part of Boxing Clever ’s 7-inch series. I floated the idea past him when we were putting together Thieves of Chicago, and he was interested in releasing it, so it all came together quite quickly. Blue Rose has been doing a great job so far, and Edgar is great to work with-and even better to drink beer with. You're back on Parasol after many years.
